KRD-I Tufting Gun Guide: Setup, Cut-to-Loop and Disassembly Tutorials

This guide brings together EFFY's KRD-I yarn-guide, cut-to-loop and disassembly tutorials for owners of this heavier electric tufting machine. Older EFFY material sometimes spells the model “KDR-I”; this article uses KRD-I, as in our current comparison guide.

KRD-I Tufting Gun Guide: Setup, Cut-to-Loop and Disassembly Tutorials

01 / KNOW YOUR KRD-I

Know your KRD-I

The KRD-I makes cut and loop pile without an air compressor. It takes more mechanical confidence to adjust than our beginner recommendations.

Feature KRD-I
Cut pile range 0.28–0.71 in (7–18 mm)
Loop pile range 0.16–0.51 in (4–13 mm)
Speed 5–40 stitches per second
Weight 4.41 lb (2 kg)
Voltage Separate 110V and 220V versions — choose the correct machine for your region

These specifications follow Compare EFFY tufting machines.

Choose the correct voltage version

The KRD-I is not a universal-voltage machine. Choose the correct version when ordering:

  • 110V version: Canada, the USA and Japan.
  • 220V version: regions with a 220–240V supply, including Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

110V and 220V are the machine-version labels. Local supply voltages vary, so tell us the country where you will use the machine and check its rated voltage and frequency before connecting it. Japan uses a 100V supply; confirm that the supplied version is suitable for your location.

02 / BEFORE ADJUSTMENTS

Before making adjustments

Older tutorials (may be outdated): these recordings show the machine versions used when they were filmed. Check that your model and components match before following an adjustment. Watch the complete demonstration first, record your original settings, and switch off and unplug the machine before mechanical work.

Keep photos and measurements of the working setup. If the machine is under warranty, contact us before dismantling it or changing its settings; see the EFFY tufting gun warranty.

03 / VIDEO TUTORIALS

KRD-I video tutorials

KRD-I disassembly, cleaning and parts replacement

This detailed tutorial shows how to take apart the KRD-I to access its internal parts for cleaning and replacement. It also covers pile-mode changes; for the simpler cut-to-loop method, start with the shorter conversion video above. Watch the full demonstration and check that your machine matches before dismantling it.
