AK-III Pneumatic Tufting Machine — Professional Air-Powered Performance

This pneumatic tufting machine offers exceptional versatility and incredibly fluffy results, all while remaining surprisingly lightweight for an air-powered tool. Once the initial setup is complete, it operates smoothly and consistently, making it suitable for confident beginners who are willing to learn the basics of pneumatic systems.

We have instructional videos (loop-to-cut conversion, pile-height adjustment, and troubleshooting) available on our YouTube channel. We will update this listing later with a full written guide once our U.S. blog post is complete.

Key Features

  • Air-powered pneumatic performance
  • Cut Pile + Loop Pile capability
  • Adjustable pile height up to 6 cm (2.36 in)
  • Lightweight for a pneumatic tufting machine
  • Professional-grade construction

💨 Air Compressor Requirements (Critical)

To operate this pneumatic tufting machine correctly, your compressor must meet all of the following:

  • Minimum tank size: 10.5 gallons (40 L)
  • Minimum airflow: 7.0 CFM (200 L/min)
  • Working pressure: 120 PSI (8 bar)
  • Recommended: A 145 PSI (10 bar) compressor to maintain a consistent 120 PSI at the machine

Most home air tools do not require this level of airflow, which is why many common compressors fail when used with pneumatic tufting guns. Airflow (CFM) is far more important than tank size.

We have included product links below for reference — these links are for New Zealand and Australia, but they allow you to identify equivalent compressors and fittings sold in the United States.

🔧 Required Fittings

The tufting machine comes with a 3/8" ARO male fitting. You will need:

  • 3/8" ARO female fitting
  • 3/8" → 1/4" brass BSP female reducer
  • 1/4" air hose

🛢️ Protect Your Pneumatic System (Highly Recommended)

To prolong the life of your pneumatic valve and prevent moisture-related issues, we strongly recommend installing a filter + lubricator (oil well) between your compressor and the tufting machine.

Make sure the filter/lubricator is rated to 140 PSI (10 bar) to avoid restricting your airflow.

For oil, use hydraulic air-tool oil only — never general-purpose mechanical oils.

✂️ Blade Position & Foot (Canvas Shelf) Adjustment

  • Spacer under blade: thin side on the left, thick side on the right (while the needle faces you)
  • Blade direction: must match the thin side of the spacer
  • Foot height:
Needles ≤ 1.6 inches (40 mm): foot level with needle
Needles > 1.6 inches: foot ~1 mm above needle for smoother travel

🛠️ Checking Valve Timing

Valve timing issues are rare unless the gun head has been removed, but here is the safe method to check:

  • Connect the machine to your air compressor.
  • Do not plug in the power cord.
  • Turn the connecting rod manually using an Allen wrench.

When the blade passes the air hole, you should hear airflow. If airflow does not match blade position, the timing may be off.
